What is Title I?

Heard-Mixon Elementary (HMES) is identified as a school-wide Title I school as part of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 (ESEA). Title I is designed to support the state and local school reform efforts tied to challenging state and academic standards to reinforce and enhance efforts to enhance teaching and learning for students. Title I programs must be based on effective means of improving student achievement and include strategies to support parental involvement.

We want to hear from you! Do you have any suggestions for how we can best reach out to, communicate with, and work with you as equal partners? Do you have any suggestions for our Parent and Family Engagement Policy, School-Parent Compact, and/or Parent and Family Engagement Funds? If so, please provide us with your comments on the Stakeholders’ Input form above and leave this form in the office or send it in with your child.

Please remember to turn in your occupational survey!  We have more copies available in the front office if you need another.


Parent Engagement Program and Activities


In an effort to improve student academic achievement, Heard-Mixon Elementary will host the following parental involvement activities to foster a partnership among the school, parents, and the community. In an effort to meet the needs of the community, alternative meetings will be in evening for any daytime events.


“Build a Better Story” writing strategy night (WRITING)– Tuesday, November 13, 6:00-7:00 p.m.

Explore strategies you can use at home to help your child build ideas for writing and increase your writing stamina. 

 ¡Desarrollar una historia mejor! Noche de la estrategias en la escritura (ESCRITURA)- El martes 13 de noviembre de 6:00-7:00p.m.  

   Examinar estrategias que usted puede usar en el hogar para ayudar su niño desarrollar ideas por la escritura y crecer su aguante en la escritura

                                            

                   

 Parent-Teacher and Student Conferences – 

September 14 and February 1

             Meet with your child’s teachers to discuss his/her progress towards state academic standards. Find out how you can become more involved in your child’s education and support your child with study skills and homework help.

                 Reúne con las maestras de sus niños a practicar su progreso hacia los normales académicas del estado.  Busca en como usted puede ser involucrado en la educación de su niño y apoyar su niño con las habilidades de estudios y ayudar en las tareas.

 “What do Snowmen do at Night?” Title I Parent Feedback & Revision: - Thursday, February 21, 6:00-7:00 p.m.

Parents and community members are invited to provide input and suggestions as we discuss our Title I School wide Plan, District and Local School Parent and Family Engagement Policy, the HMES School-Parent Compact, and 1% Budget Allocation of Funds.
