What is Title I?
Heard-Mixon Elementary (HMES) is identified as a
school-wide Title I school as part of the Elementary and Secondary
Education Act of 1965 (ESEA). Title I is designed to support the state
and local school reform efforts tied to challenging state and academic
standards to reinforce and enhance efforts to enhance teaching and
learning for students. Title I programs must be based on effective means
of improving student achievement and include strategies to support
parental involvement.

suggestions for how we can best reach out to, communicate with, and work
with you as equal partners? Do you have any suggestions for our Parent
and Family Engagement Policy, School-Parent Compact, and/or Parent and
Family Engagement Funds? If so, please provide us with your comments on
the Stakeholders’ Input form above and leave this form in the office or
send it in with your child.

Parent Engagement Program and Activities
In an effort to improve student academic achievement, Heard-Mixon Elementary will host the following parental involvement activities to foster a partnership among the school, parents, and the community. In an effort to meet the needs of the community, alternative meetings will be in evening for any daytime events.
“Build a Better Story” writing strategy night (WRITING)– Tuesday, November 13, 6:00-7:00 p.m.
Explore strategies you can use at home to help your child build ideas for writing and increase your writing stamina.

Parent-Teacher and Student Conferences –
September 14 and February 1
Meet with your child’s teachers to discuss his/her progress towards state academic standards. Find out how you can become more involved in your child’s education and support your child with study skills and homework help.

Parents and community members are invited to provide input and suggestions as we discuss our Title I School wide Plan, District and Local School Parent and Family Engagement Policy, the HMES School-Parent Compact, and 1% Budget Allocation of Funds.
