Welcome to Heard-Mixon Elementary School

Newton education foundation

A message from our friends at Newton Education Foundation:

As the school year moves into its final months we are filled with gratitude for the many hours that our teachers and staff have put in to give our kids a great experience. At NEF we love to bring the community together and what better way to do that than with a love fest for our NCS teachers and staff!!

WHAT YOU DO: Make a gift to NEF of $20 and leave a note of gratitude for a teacher or staff person that made a difference in your child’s life.
WHAT WE DO: We post those tributes on a webpage and send the teacher who was honored a link so they can read it and feel the love!
WHAT OUR VOLUNTEERS DO: They deliver a yard sign to you so that your friends and neighbors know that your family is ALL IN for NCS Teachers and Staff and then your neighbors go and repeat the cycle.

All funds raised will go to our next teacher grant cycle in the Fall. In the past year we have given $100,000 in grants to NCS teachers!
TO SUMMARIZE:
1. Make your gift at newtoneducationfoundation.org/allinforncs
(for each $20 donated we will post one tribute message which can be generic such as The family of John Smith honors his RMS teachers OR personalized The family of John Smith honors Julia Roberts -Thanks for being awesome).

2. Once your gift is made you will receive a confirmation screen with a link to complete your tribute message – you must fill out a separate form for each tribute message. Please don’t use the comment section of the donation form – you will get the link once the donation has been processed.

3. You do not have to make each donation separately – that is you can donate $100 at once and complete five tribute forms for five posted tributes.

4. If you would like to do a tribute but cannot make a donation, please email [email protected]
Thank you for being ALL IN FOR NCS TEACHERS AND STAFF!

"🎉 Exciting News! 🎉
We’re proud to share that the Newton Education Foundation has fully funded our grant to bring the ChompSaw 10x Maker Bundle and Inventor’s Workbook to the Heard-Mixon art room! Thanks to their generous support, our Superstars will now be able to safely cut, shape, and build with cardboard using kid-friendly ChompSaw tools. These tools are designed to spark creativity and critical thinking by allowing students to design and construct their own 3D models—everything from buildings and bridges to wearable art and imaginative creatures! By combining art with science, technology, engineering, and math, students will strengthen their problem-solving skills while having a blast bringing their ideas to life. We can’t wait to see what our superstar makers will create! 🛠️✨🎨- Mrs. Wigley, Art Teacher HMES "

Yearbooks will now have to be purchased at the school(CASH ONLY) and will be available until May 22nd.

Principal's Message

Dear Parents,
After careful discussion with the teacher-leaders and administration, we would like to inform you of an important policy change regarding water bottles in the classroom. Beginning January 7, 2025, water bottles will no longer be permitted in classrooms unless they are inside a lunch box and used during lunch time.
This decision comes after observing that water bottles have become a distraction during instruction and are causing damage to school supplies and materials. In order to create a more focused learning environment and protect classroom resources, students will no longer be allowed to have water bottles on their desks, near the classroom sink, or in their bookbags.
We understand the importance of hydration, and students will still have opportunities to drink water during lunch and designated breaks. We are sharing this information now so that families can make adjustments accordingly, and we can proactively address any concerns before the change takes effect.
Thank you for your understanding and support as we work to maintain an optimal learning environment for all students. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the school.
Sincerely,
Gregory W. Brown, Ed.D
