Parent Engagement Program and Activities

In an effort to improve student academic achievement, Heard-Mixon Elementary will host the following parental involvement activities to foster a partnership among the school, parents, and the community. In an effort to meet the needs of the community, alternative meetings will be in evening for any daytime events.



Title I Parent Orientation and Curriculum Night—Thursday, August 22, 6:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m.

Learn about our Title I program, our Parent and Family Engagement Policy, the Home-School Compacts and upcoming Parent and Family Engagement activities. Visit your child’s classroom and find great tips to help your child have a successful year at HMES!

Batty over Books – Thursday, October 24,
6:00 p.m.—7:00 p.m.

Bring your family for a night of reading fun as we dress up as our favorite book characters and visit classrooms
to play reading games and learn new reading strategies to use at home. Teachers share reading strategies and 
vocabulary building skills using literature and technology! Enjoy a free hot dog dinner sponsored by PTO!

Math Mornings - Monday-Friday, February 3th - 7th  
7:30 a.m.—8:30 a.m.

Come join your child and learn math strategies to use at home to help your child become a math superstar! Teachers will lead math activities demonstrating fun ways to practice and sharpen math skills. Monday: Pk-K Tuesday: 1st and 2nd grade Wednesday: Third Grade Thursday: 4th grade Friday: 5th grade Continental breakfast provided!

Mananas de matematicas: lunes a viernes, del 3 al 7 de febrero de 7:30 a.m. a 8:30 a.m.

Unase a su hijo y aprenda estrategias matematicas para usar en casa y ayudarlo a convertirse en una superestrella de las matematicas. Please ZOOM with us for our Title I Stakeholder Input meeting on Thursday, March 20th. Check the HMES website or your upcoming teacher's REMIND message to find the link to join. If you are unable to join in the zoom meeting, please fill out the Stakeholder's Input Form that will be coming home in Wednesday folders. Look for more information coming home in a Title I packet soon!

Parents and community members are invited to provide input and suggestions as we discuss our Title I School wide Plan, District and Local School Parent and Family Engagement Policy, the HMES School-Parent Compact, and 1% Budget Allocation of Funds.
