What is Title I?

Heard-Mixon Elementary (HMES) is identified as a school-wide Title I school as part of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 (ESEA). Title I is designed to support the state and local school reform efforts tied to challenging state and academic standards to reinforce and enhance efforts to enhance teaching and learning for students. Title I programs must be based on effective means of improving student achievement and include strategies to support parental involvement.

2019-2020 Parent Engagement Activities

Title 1 Parent Orientation and Open House-
Thursday, August 22, 2019, 6:00-7:00pm
Learn about our Title 1 program, our Parent and Family Engagement Policy, the Home-School Compacts, and upcoming Parent and Family Engagement activities.  Visit your child's classroom and find great tips to help your child have a successful year at HMES!

Parent-Teacher and Student Conferences-
September 13th and February 7th
Meet with your child's teachers to discuss his/her progress towards state academic standards.  Find out how you can become more involved in our child's education and support your child with study skills and homework help. 

Make and Take Math Night-
Thursday, October 17th, 6:00-7:00pm

​Come visit your child's classroom to learn math strategies and make math games and activities that will help your child have a deeper understanding of mathematical concepts.  Take home your activities to use with your child to help your child become a math superstar!

Build a Better Story writing strategy night-
Thursday, November 14th, 6:00-7:00pm
Explore strategies you can use at home to help your child build ideas for writing and increase your writing Stamina.  

Title 1 Parent Feedback and Revision-
Thursday, February 20th 6:00-7:00pm
Parents and community members are invited to provide input and suggestions as we discuss our Title 1 School wide Plan, District and Local School Parent and Family Engagement Policy, the HMES School-Parent Compact, and 1% Budget Allocation of Funds.
